British woman pleaded guilty in Jamaica on ganja charges

Forty-three year old Tracy Roach, a British woman who was nabbed trying to leave the island with a suitcase loaded with ganja was sentenced to one year in prison after she pleaded guilty in the Corporate Area Criminal Court yesterday.

The narcotics police reported that Ms Roach, the mother of three, was preparing to board a flight to London at the Norman Manley International Airport when she was stopped and searched.

Forty pounds of ganja with a street value of $8 million was found in her suitcase.

And a Trinidadian woman who was also arrested while trying to leave Jamaica with drugs was sentenced to nine months in prison yesterday.

Thirty year old Dixil Gordon pleaded guilty to possession of 11 pounds of ganja.

She was preparing to board a flight to Trinidad when she was nabbed.

The ganja had a street value of $3 million.
