Dancehall Singer Mavado Denied Permit for Birthday Bash
Krista Henry, Staff Reporter of the Jamaica star wrote an article that was published today stating that popular Dancehall Singer Mavado is denied permit for his planned Birthday Bash.
According to the Star Reporter, promoters of Mavado’s Birthday Bash are desperately attempting to reach a resolution with local authorities in order to get a permit granted for the event this weekend.
It was announced yesterday that the party, which was scheduled for this Saturday night at Temple Hall Estate, St Andrew, would no longer be kept. When The STAR spoke with Mavado’s manager, Julian Jones-Griffith, he confirmed that he had been involved in meetings with the police all day; however, he would not get into the reasons behind not being granted a permit.
According to Jones-Griffith, he is making attempts at getting the issue resolved. He said: “We’re not gonna say too much at this time, let’s see what tomorrow brings but we’re not giving up. Giving up is not in our modus operandi, we stand tall in the face of adversity.”
When contacted by THE STAR, a high-ranking officer confirmed that the Mavado group had been in meetings with the police yesterday.
If the permit is not granted then the event would either be canceled or moved to another location.
Just last week the Director of Communication for the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Karl Angell, issued a release warning persons not to stage events without permits.
Warning
The release stated: “It has come to the attention of the police that promoters of public events who have been denied permission to stage such events are still going ahead setting-up sound systems, other equipment and are actually conducting these events in contravention of the law. The police are warning these individuals that the law (Noise Abatement Act) will be applied to its fullest extent when breaches are detected. Noncompliance of the law can lead to seizure of equipment and prosecution.”
In another release earlier this week, the JCF advised that the police retain the right to cancel any permit for the staging of entertainment events if they constitute a threat to public safety and order. The release outlined such a case with last Sunday’s staging of a dance on Cling Cling Avenue in Olympic Way, St Andrew in which the permit was revoked.
The last time Mavado’s birthday bash was staged at Temple Hall Estate in 2007, police conducted a massive raid that left patrons stranded for hours.
This year Mavado celebrated his birthday with parties held in various cities locally and overseas. The event at Temple Hall was expected to include performances from Mavado and American R&B singer Bobby Valentino.
