Two Cops Who Allegedly Stole Money During Police Operation Had Their Bail Extended Yesterday

Two Jamaican cops who are accused of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act had their bails extended when they appeared in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Constables Kevin Whyte and Sylvester Thaxter were charged following allegations that they stole money during a police operation.

The policemen were charged following an incident on the Lacovia Main Road, St. Elizabeth in February 2008.

It is alleged that the cops were on highway patrol duty when they signaled the driver of a car to stop.

The vehicle was searched however nothing was found.

The motorist later reported that $30,000 which was in the vehicle was missing.

An investigation was carried out and a file sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions who ruled that the policemen be charged.
