Jamaican Businessman to be sentenced today on drug trafficking charges
A St. Andrew businessman who was arrested two years ago for possession of more than one billion dollars worth of ganja is to be sentenced today.
Douglas Wayne Brown otherwise called Douglas Christopher Maragh last month pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges when he appeared in the Corporate Area Criminal Court.
Mr. Brown, a resident of Summit Heights in upper St. Andrew was nabbed in April 2007 following a major narcotics bust.
The Narcotics Police say they conducted an operation along Mountain View Avenue in January that year and seized three large buses loaded with more than a thousand boxes with compressed ganja and hash oil.
The ganja weighed more than 12,000 pounds with a street value of US$18 million or $1.6 billion.
Following a high level probe, Mr. Brown was arrested and charged.
