I had the privilege of interviewing Lazah Current and Dubkore, two of Jamaica’s conscious reggae artiste on Friday December 11, at Vybz 96.3 FM during my Real Mix Show. They are  both currently based in St. Catherine and making their individual contributions to the reggae music industry:

Lazah Current

Lazah Current aka Hal Duggan was born in the community of Spauldings in the parish of Manchester, where he attended the Kendall basic school and Porus primary school before moving to live in Kingston. After a short while he moved from Kingston to live with his mother who had migrated to Ontario, Canada, a few years earlier. In Canada he attended the Queens Mount School and the Forrest Heights Collegiate High School in Kitchener, Ontario. Read more.

Dubkore

Dubkore began his schooling at Calabar all age and continued at Dunrobin primary. His introduction to music came at an early age by way of the piano. His hard work and talent garnered him the opportunity to study at viva studio. These qualities were on display when he put in a silver medal performance at the 1979 music Festival. He subsequently attended St. Georges College and later on Exed Community college. He recalls that whenever he entered the school band room, he felt a sense of belonging. Read more.
