Wasp Nabs ‘Song Of The Year’ Award
By: Raymond ‘Shadow’ Small
Cassia Park deejay Wasp continues to show upward mobility in 2010 and was last weekend rewarded for his efforts by taking home the awards for ‘Most Requested Song’ and the coveted ‘Song of the Year’ for ‘Unfair Officer’ at the ROOTS FM awards show and concert held on Friday, January 29th at the station’s premises in Cockburn Gardens.
The award show unlike many others aims to bestow accolades on our local talent who continually churn out spiritually uplifting music throughout the year, the kind that aids in the rebuilding process of an emotional and economically battered nation such as Jamaica.
Following the formalities, Wasp delivered a fiery set alongside conscious crooner Nesbeth, up and coming reggae singer Influential and the strong one Etana.
On Saturday it was onto St. Hugh’s High School Barbecue at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Center where the double EME nominated recording artiste had the hundreds in attendance singing and dancing in unison as he explained why he was the toast of the town when it comes to the ladies.
Wasp current No.1 hit single ‘Cry Fi Dem’ was last week chosen as one of the official songs of a U.S. based Relief campaign for Haiti, the project was spearheaded by a musical connoisseur Johnny Wonder.
