After ripping the runway at the recently concluded Pulse – Caribbean Fashion Week, plans are now in high gear for dancehall recording artiste D’Angel to make good on her promise of delivering a memorable performance at the 2010 staging of Reggae Sumfest destined for Catherine Hall, Montego Bay. Though not her first time on the big stage, D’Angel is focused on leaving her imprint on the expected thousands in attendance on Dancehall Night.

“I plan to pull out all the stops, not just to go on stage and sing my songs. I want to leave something memorable that people will talk about even after the festival has ended.”

Meanwhile D’Angel currently one of the campaign faces of telecom giants Digicel, last week kicked off their ‘Juss Buss’ Road Show alongside other acts. The ‘Bigger Better’ company now a staple across the Caribbean and Latin America also rolled out their first official musical compilation entitled ‘Next Generation’ which features several prominent entertainers including D’Angel with a song titled ‘New Generation’.

Equipped with several new singles and the premier of her scorching hot video for ‘Come Over’, the Dancehall fashionista is scheduled to perform at a number of events in the weeks ahead including: Manchester Fiesta, Little Ochi Seafood Festival and Radio Jamaica Group (RJR) 60th Anniversary among others.

Carlene Davis to Headline Denbigh Gospel Extravaganza

This Independence weekend alongside the fun, food and agricultural offering at Denbigh, for many it will be a time of praise and worship and a time of divine reflection and giving thanks to the higher authority for the privileges we now enjoy as a nation.

The very popular Denbigh Gospel Extravaganza is set for August 1st at the Denbigh Agricultural Show Grounds, May Pen, Clarendon. The family oriented event known to attract large gatherings will be headlined by none other than famed gospel singer and doctoral minister Carlene Davis.

Added to an impressive roster featuring the likes of Sister Scully, Dj Nicholas, Jabez, Ryan Berry, Septimus and Kingdom Souljazz, patrons will also be treated to a performance from this year’s JCDC Gospel Song winner while emcee duties will be handled by television personality Alysia Moulton-White.

The event is sponsored by Hi-Pro Feeds, Ace Supercenter, Best Dressed Chicken, Glory Music and J.A.S.

Immediately following the concert Dr. Davis will depart the island for Canada where she is expected to headline a series of concerts alongside Papa San and Judith Gayle in Toronto (Aug 2), Vancouver and Montreal (Aug 7) before heading to New York on August 15. On her return she is booked for a concert with 2007 Digicel Rising Star winner Romain Virgo in St. Elizabeth.

The very accomplished singer was also featured on the cover of the May- June issue of the very popular Caribbean publication ‘Buzzz Magazine’.

The ‘Rapids’ Countdown to ATI Starts Now

(Kingston, Jamaica) — Appleton Rapids marks the official countdown to this summer’s Appleton Temptation Isle, more popularly known as ATI.

Reggae Sumfest Honours Voicemail’s O’Neil

Kingston Jamaica: Summerfest Productions, organizers of Reggae Sumfest have dedicated Dancehall Night to the memory of the late O’Neil Edwards, former member of Dancehall group Voicemail.

The energetic and colourful O’Neil passed away on Wednesday, May 26, two weeks after falling victim to a vicious assault by gunmen at his home. The Reggae Sumfest team felt it was a fitting tribute to a man whose music has played a key role in the maintenance of the flair, fun, and finesse of the dancehall culture.

“It is appropriate to honour a vibrant personality that was loved in the music business,” explains Johnny Gourzong, Executive Director of Reggae Sumfest. “The Voicemail group has brought the fun factor in the music, and O’Neil was a key element in this regard. He was loved and respected by fans, fellow artistes, promoters and just about everybody in the business, so we will honour his memory with this dedication.”

Voicemail will be performing on Dancehall Night Thursday, July 22. The remaining group members Jerome “Craig” Jackson and Kevin Blair expressed gratitude for the gesture made by Reggae Sumfest and promised a fitting tribute performance. Speaking on their behalf, Craig stated their appreciation.

“It’s a very good gesture,” he noted. “We support the move and are pleased. I think O’Neil would be very happy for something like this so I guess he is where he is now smiling and giving us support.”

Craig and Kevin have planned a special tribute performance in memory of their fallen comrade. They intend to include the single Praise His Name written by the group before O’Neil’s untimely passing. As Craig remarked, the Reggae Sumfest dedication is another sign of Jamaica’s love for the group and what they represent.

“Personally we’re overwhelmed right now…I knew that Voicemail was loved but never knew we were loved like this. If there was any thought of ending the group Voicemail, this would be inspiration for us to continue – not that there was any, but if there were, that alone would convince us that the journey should continue…best thing to do is to be strong and continue to do what he would have wanted and what he would have done.”

O’Neil Edwards was shot on May 10 at his Duhaney Park home in, St Andrew, and succumbed to his injuries 16 days later. He died just three weeks after his 35th birthday. He’s survived by his then six-week-old daughter, girlfriend, mother, five sisters and four brothers.

Voicemail will perform on Dancehall Night, joining a list that includes Bounty Killer, Mavado, Elephant Man, Vybz Kartel, Tifa, Cecile, and Stacious. Reggae Sumfest continues the following night with International Night One and will feature International recording artist Chris Brown as well as Queen Ifrica, Jah Cure, & Gyptian. International Night two brings to the Sumfest stage mega platinum sensation Usher, Shaggy, Beenie Man, Tarrus Riley & Gramps Morgan.

Tickets for the Beach Party on Saturday, July 17 are available for $1500. Tickets for dancehall night (Thursday, July 22) cost $2800 presold and $3000 at the gate, and for International Night one and two (Friday, July 23 and Saturday, July 24), advance tickets cost $4700 and $5000 at the gate.

Montego Bay Community Embraces Reggae Sumfest 2010

Kingston, Jamaica:-Business interests are expecting this year’s Reggae Sumfest to bring a significant jolt to the Montego Bay economy, which should also extend to the wider Jamaica. It is being seen as a welcome ease to the current economic crunch and a catapult for more growth.

Each year, the world- renowned Festival draws thousands of overseas visitors into the city and its environs, and with this influx, there comes a remarkable upswing in commerce and its related benefits. Road to ATI….. Extatic Fridays

Kingston, Jamaica: Extatic Fridays kicked off on Friday, June 4 at the Cuddyz Sports Bar in New Kingston. The event will be a staple on the weekly entertainment calendar this summer leading up to ATI Weekend in Negril.

In its third year Extatic Fridays has made a name for itself on the entertainment scene with good music, beautiful patrons and an all around fun event. This year the event has been extended running for seven, instead of six weeks, which started last Friday with the ‘kick off party.’

According to Dane Chin, Extatic Fridays promoter, last week’s event surpassed expectations. He said, “we invited some special guests such as Extatic Fridays contacts and loyal fans and I never expected that kind of support on the first night, it was amazing. The vibe was good, we are looking to improve the experience for the coming weeks.”

One of the things the Extatic team is in the process of implementing is an outdoor bar and a special bar in the VIP section where persons can enjoy the effecient bar service.

This week Extatic’s theme is ‘Absolute Crave’ the sexy shorts and skirts party which features some of the hottest selectors – Coppershot Disco, ZJ Johnny Kool and DJ Karyzma. Ladies dressed in shorts and skirts enter free before midnight as well as college students with ID.

There will also be 2 for 1 Appleton mixes until midnight and secured parking in the New Kingston Shopping Centre.

Some of the upcoming themes include ‘Ladies Night’, a nineties music night called ‘Flashback’ which will features Delano from Renaissance and Coppershot, a singles night titled ‘Hook Up’ where patrons have the chance to win season ATI bands, and there is also a ‘Rum in the City: Mug Madness’ night.

According to Chin Extatic Fridays is a signature event that promises only the best. “We always have unique themes and concepts that you don’t see at every party. Plus the vibe, we have the best local and international DJs,” Chin commented.

Reggae Sumfest Cyaan Dun…18 Years and Counting!

Kingston, Jamaica:-Going into 2009, promoters of live shows in Jamaica faced challenging times. They were beginning to feel the effects of a global recession that took root in the summer of 2008 and were bracing for the worst.

One event that came away unscathed was Reggae Sumfest, the annual week-long show that has taken place at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay, St. James since 1993. Prior to the show, spokespersons for Summerfest Productions acknowledged the difficult financial times, but announced a line-up they believed would make Reggae Sumfest 2009 the best ever.

The eclectic cast certainly paid off for the July 19-25 show. Dancehall’s elite, led by Beenie Man and Bounty Killer, packed the house on Dancehall Night which Summerfest says drew an astonishingly large number of patrons.

It proved that despite plunging album sales, the dancehall genre remains the most popular and dynamic sound in Jamaica.

The International Nights had great support as well and featured new-wave American soul singers Ne-Yo, Jazmine Sullivan and Keri Hilson and also Queen Ifrica, the new first lady of roots dancehall.

However, the biggest plus for Sumfest was undoubtedly the appearance of Tito Jackson on the second International Night. He and his band traveled to Montego Bay to accept a lifetime achievement award from Summerfest Productions in honour of his brother, superstar Michael Jackson, who died from cardiac arrest in Los Angeles in June.

Tito’s presence gained international attention and influenced major television networks to cover his set which was largely a tribute to his deceased brother.

“What it did was generate a lot of international exposure for us. The entertainment world was still focused on the Jackson legacy and Tito coming here gave us unprecedented publicity,” said Robert Russell, senior director of Summerfest Productions. Tito Jackson’s Sumfest performance was featured on leading American television programmes including Entertainment Tonight and Good Morning America.

The financial analysts say the recession, now in its second year, has eased somewhat. With July fast approaching that is certainly good news for organizations like Summerfest Productions who are already planning the 18th staging of the biggest reggae festival in the world.

Reggae Sumfest kicks off in Montego Bay, Jamaica on the main concert grounds at Catherine Hall on Thursday July 22 with three nights of music, ending on Saturday, July 24.

Delveland Mango Festival 2010 Postponed

Delveland Mango Festival in Jamaica which was scheduled for Sunday May 30, was postponed to Sunday June 13.

There will be various displays of mango dishes and other by-products. This year Boston Style Jerk Mango will be on display for the first time in the history of the festival. Think about Boston Style Jerk chicken and pork, which is very popular and craved by Jamaicans and visitors to the Island and imagine what it would be like to finally taste Graham and other mangoes prepared to wet the appetite and the taste buds.

A family oriented entertainment package is included in the list of activities for patrons to be entertained while consuming graham mango and it by-products. Headliners will be Tarrus Riley and LUST.

Tarrus Riley who is touring heavily this year to promote his Contagious CD and has been popular on the charts for some years now, especially with his most popular song to date “She’s Royal”, also with hits such as “Beware”, Protect Yuh Neck” and “Stay With You”.

The Group LUST which is comprising of four talented and melodious singers coming together to provide a blend of sweet musical harmony: Lukie D, Thriller U, Singing Melody and Tony Curtis. The Awesome Four.

Also appearing on stage will be gospel singers Noreta Lewis, winner of JCDC Gospel Song Competition back in the 90s, who has been doing well on gospel concert stages all over the Island; and Tameka Houde, winner of Gospel in the West Song Competition 2009.

Kingston, Jamaica: Recording artiste and Entrepreneur D’Angel, now in New York on professional engagements has officially been confirmed as one of the local acts slated to performed at the this year’s staging of the highly anticipated Reggae Sumfest destined for Catherine Hall, Montego Bay.

The event which run from July 22-24 with a kick off beach party on July 18th, will see industry heavyweights such as Shaggy, Beenie Man, reggae crooners Tarrus Riley, I-Octane, Queen Ifrica, Jah Cure and Gramps Morgan gracing the stage along with the introduction of the new wave of talent on the entertainment circuit namely; Konshens, Stacious, Tifa, Chino and the recently engaged Tessanne Chin among others.

This year’s International headliner is none other than American R&B sensation, Chris Brown who’ll be making his debut at the greatest reggae show on earth.

D’Angel is due back in the island on Thursday, June 3 and will be making final preparation to shoot the video for her single ‘Come Over’ on the Roof Top Rhythm produced Rose Gold Entertainment.
