D’Angel To Ignite Reggae Sumfest This Weekend

After ripping the runway at the recently concluded Pulse – Caribbean Fashion Week, plans are now in high gear for dancehall recording artiste D’Angel to make good on her promise of delivering a memorable performance at the 2010 staging of Reggae Sumfest destined for Catherine Hall, Montego Bay. Though not her first time on the big stage, D’Angel is focused on leaving her imprint on the expected thousands in attendance on Dancehall Night.

“I plan to pull out all the stops, not just to go on stage and sing my songs. I want to leave something memorable that people will talk about even after the festival has ended.”

Meanwhile D’Angel currently one of the campaign faces of telecom giants Digicel, last week kicked off their ‘Juss Buss’ Road Show alongside other acts. The ‘Bigger Better’ company now a staple across the Caribbean and Latin America also rolled out their first official musical compilation entitled ‘Next Generation’ which features several prominent entertainers including D’Angel with a song titled ‘New Generation’.

Equipped with several new singles and the premier of her scorching hot video for ‘Come Over’, the Dancehall fashionista is scheduled to perform at a number of events in the weeks ahead including: Manchester Fiesta, Little Ochi Seafood Festival and Radio Jamaica Group (RJR) 60th Anniversary among others.

Carlene Davis to Headline Denbigh Gospel Extravaganza

This Independence weekend alongside the fun, food and agricultural offering at Denbigh, for many it will be a time of praise and worship and a time of divine reflection and giving thanks to the higher authority for the privileges we now enjoy as a nation.

The very popular Denbigh Gospel Extravaganza is set for August 1st at the Denbigh Agricultural Show Grounds, May Pen, Clarendon. The family oriented event known to attract large gatherings will be headlined by none other than famed gospel singer and doctoral minister Carlene Davis.

Added to an impressive roster featuring the likes of Sister Scully, Dj Nicholas, Jabez, Ryan Berry, Septimus and Kingdom Souljazz, patrons will also be treated to a performance from this year’s JCDC Gospel Song winner while emcee duties will be handled by television personality Alysia Moulton-White.

The event is sponsored by Hi-Pro Feeds, Ace Supercenter, Best Dressed Chicken, Glory Music and J.A.S.

Immediately following the concert Dr. Davis will depart the island for Canada where she is expected to headline a series of concerts alongside Papa San and Judith Gayle in Toronto (Aug 2), Vancouver and Montreal (Aug 7) before heading to New York on August 15. On her return she is booked for a concert with 2007 Digicel Rising Star winner Romain Virgo in St. Elizabeth.

The very accomplished singer was also featured on the cover of the May- June issue of the very popular Caribbean publication ‘Buzzz Magazine’.

Princess Thundah says Life Caan Done

The summer is hot and things are definitely heating up for fast rising reggae/dancehall artist Princess Thundah. Her debut single titled Life Caan Done is getting lots of attention on FM radio. Its accompanying music video is also receiving strong rotation on music video channels such as RETV, HYPE TV, CVM Plus and NTV. Life Caan Done contains lyrics that are a cut above the normal fare of contemporary dancehall. Singing lines such as: “life cant done ya, help me rise the youth dem from the slum ya, earth a spin nothing no new under the sun ya,” Princess Thundah, sends a message of hope to the youths worldwide as he encourages them not give up nor give in no matter how hard life gets.

Princess Thundah whose real name is Princess Saulas, hails from the Kingston 11 area of Kingston, she spent most of her early years in Kingston before moving to live in Braeton St Catherine. Drawn to music from an early age she began singing from the age of six. However it was during her teen age years while living in Portmore, she realized that she wanted to become an artist. Back in those days she performed at school events and talent shows. She also honed her skills by performing on sound-systems in her community.

Princess Thundah eventually moved to the United States to live with her mother in New York City. In New York she hooked up with a group of guys from Guyana who invited her to join their band called Dinesty. She also gained more experience as the lead vocalist for two other groups The Ninja Band and The Untouchables. During those days Princess Thundah did recordings for various producers, however it was working with the bands that really brought her some amount of success in the form of tours of Canada, the Caribbean and different parts of America. One of the biggest moments in her career so far was her performance on the amateur night on the Legendary ”Showtime At The Apollo” series in 2003 at the Apollo Theatre in New York.

In 2005 she was introduced by a friend to producers Patrick Dunn and Roger Grant in Philadelphia. They were tremendously impressed with her talent and began working with her immediately. Princess Thundah is presently signed t to a five year contract with 619 Entertainment Group, which is owned by Roger Grant, Patrick Dunn, Linval Osbourne and Marcello Johnson.

The company is currently promoting her debut single called Life Caan Done, while preparing an album of the same name in order to break her into the international reggae market.

Stein Racks Up Impressive Numbers In New York

Kingston, Jamaica: Follow the signing of a new management deal with Prism Marketing Consultants, popular entertainer Stein formerly known as Einstein is already reaping the rewards with a number of bookings and a newly released mixtape steadily leaving its imprint in the New York Tri-State area.

The 35-track compilation titled ‘Israel’, produced by New York based radio jock and producer Tek 9 of Tek 9 Movement in collaboration with Chimney Records, features the best of Stein showcasing some of his older material reworked in dub plate format, interspersed with some new songs. The disc also sees a cameo from the Warlord Bounty Killer on the track ‘Tell Dem’.

In only its second week of release ‘Israel’ has already racked up an impressive 13,000+ downloads and is expected to perform in similar fashion across other urban marketing upon its release there.

On Saturday, Stein performed at Bling Dawg – Summer Jam in Somerset Falls, Portland where he delivered and fiery set then it was onto Fox’s – All White in Ironshore, Montego Bay on Sunday, there he shared the staged with fellow Alliance members Mavado, Flexxx, Chase Cross and songbird Ishawna. His set was met with much fanfare and shows the entertainer’s growth since bursting onto the scene a few years ago.

Ahead of several local and overseas assignments Stein is busy promoting his new singles ‘Sex Appeal’, ‘Kill Himself’, ‘Bad Man Nuh War Ova Gyal’ and ‘Rain drops’ for Chimney Records and Romeich Records respectively.

Versatile Says It’s His Year

(Kingston, Jamaica) — Artiste, Versatile is the embodiment of the saying, ‘hard work pays off’.

The Bank In A Mi Pocket and My Year artiste who always proudly proclaims his Portland origin, says his musical journey has been anything but smooth, but passion for his craft keeps him motivated.

“I’m the kind of person, once I get one foot in the door that’s all I need. My foot in the door was meeting Beenie Man when I first started out and then from there linking with other producers, now Romeich. So I’m definitely not letting the opportunities pass me by,” said the artiste whose correct name is Sheldon Taylor.

So focused is he, that hitting the studio and perfecting his stage craft have been at the forefront of his mind. He says, “I’ve been focusing on my new songs, Watching You featuring Beenie Man, Country A Mash Up on the Stagemix riddim by Romeich Records, Sneakers, and some other jugglings. Plus Bank In a Mi Pocket is doing great on the local charts. I’m focused on making this year and others, my year.”

In addition, last weekend Versatile wracked up five shows: Bakers Fiesta in Brown’s Town, Ochi Invasion, The High school cheerleading competition at the National Arena on Saturday and Portland Jerk Festival and it’s after-party on Sunday. This weekend fans can catch him in action at the Bling Dawg’s Summer Jam which will be staged in Portland, Jamaica on Sunday night.

Wayne Marshall, with the newly released remix of his single, My Heart featuring Mavado and Vybz Kartel & Popcaan’s continuous ascent with Clarks are doing not only well on charts, but have also continued to rake in sales both home and abroad.

Wayne Marshall’s My Heart remix single and video were released recently, the latter on Friday night, and within hours websites and media houses were in a flurry of excitement over the new video.

21st/Hapilos Digital Distribution which is responsible for the distribution of Marshall’s My Heart remix featuring Mavado produced by Baby G on the Yard Vybz/Off Limits label and the Vybz Kartel & Popcaan Clarks phenomenon are adamant about continuing to push their clients to new heights.

Johnny Wonder, executive vice-president of 21st/Hapilos says, “Wayne is a great artiste and I think it shows in the amount of love he has been getting from members of the public and media after releasing the single and video only a short while ago. The Clarks single on the Mad Collab riddim is no different. Every week the song breaks a new boundary overseas. This is in addition to overseas persons further buying into the Clarks sensation and logging on to purchase the single on the digital outlets.

Aidonia upbeat about Reggae Sumfest

Kingston, Jamaica: Taking a historical glance back at Reggae Sumfest, one might noticed that ace deejay Aidonia had been absent for a number of years.

However the dawning of 2010 has seen a major turning point in his career with several positives, the latest being his addition to this year’s staging of the prestigious festival set to unfold at Catherine Hall, Montego Bay from July 17-24th.

Aidonia who is very upbeat about his inclusion on this year’s roster will grace the stage on Dancehall Night alongside some of the biggest names in the industry and is expected to bring the heat on July 22. Patrons will get an opportunity to see ‘Aidonia – The Performer’ a skill he has been honing for the past couple of years.

Despite several challenges now facing the island the organizers of the festival dubbed the “Greatest Reggae Festival On Earth” are expected this the 18th edition to be a memorable one.

Meanwhile following the festival, the deejay whose real name is Sheldon Lawrence will depart the island for several assignments in Barbados and Trinidad before heading off to Canada in late Summer.

Nesbeth who co-hosted FIWI Choice Top 10 show on TVJ last weekend made use of his appearance to promote his long awaited video for his, “A Nuh Suh Mi Waan Live.” Nesbeth went further as during his performances at both the JCDC Road Show in Falmouth where he wowed the crowd and Invasion held in Ocho Rios, he wasted no time plugging the release. A Nuh Suh Mi Waan Live video is a production of Ezra who captured the storyline from the lyrics of the song clearly making this video as interesting to watch as it is to listen to words of this cleverly written piece from the soft spoken Reggae Artiste.

Fantan Mojah turned on the thrills at Summerjam in Cologne, Germany last weekend. The receptive crowd showed their appreciation from his intro through to the deliveries of popular tracks such as Tell Lie Pon Rasta, Nuh Build and Hail the King to name a few from his over one hour long performance. Stevie Face Serenades Yallahs Primary Graduates!

Yallahs primary school graduating class of 2010 got an unexpected surprise treat on Wed June 30th when past student Stevie Face rolled into their school compound to congratulate and entertain them. Stevie was invited by senior teacher Ms Michelle Buchanan who had kept it a guarded secret from the students and parents in attendance. From the moment he entered the auditorium the students responded with deafening screams and it was apparent that they were overwhelmed with seeing one of their very own who had risen to such success and fame, especially as a native St Thomas son and a graduate himself of Yallahs primary.

Stevie proudly thanked them for their accomplishments at this stage of their educational journey and then gave them a brief but humorous motivational speech. Then the formalities of the event seemed almost forgotten when Stevie started singing “Tell it like it is’ for his adoring alumni. Everyone in attendance was singing along and rocking to his superb vocal delivery, and after singing his current new hit song “In the living years” had to cut his performance short for fear of turning the graduation event into a stage show. This was much to the disappointment of his adoring young fans however Stevie promised to remain committed to the development of his old school and offered his pledge of assistance in the near future.

The school was also recently fitted with a state of the art computer lab courtesy of the USAID and Western Union, and continues their profound commitment to offering the very best primary education the parish of St Thomas has to offer.

Bramma Nominated for an Awards in Bermuda!

In many instances new tracks by Bramma enjoys multiple blasts online by several djs at their own free will. This came as a result of his networking, sharing and commitment to fulfill promises made to djs who return the favour by spreading the music in their respective circles both in cyber and the real world.

The Artiste’s respect also extends from upcoming artistes based overseas who are trying to get their music out as well, this trait has its pay day as November 2009 saw Bramma leave the island on tour for Europe where he performed at over 8 events, a full spread feature in Riddim Magazine in Germany, CD Mix distributed across Gloucester, London and today, Bramma benefits yet again from networking, having been nominated in the category of Best Reggae Song in the UMA (Underground Music Awards) in Bermuda. Bramma was introduced to Tha Underground by way of collaboration with a local artist in Bermuda called SLANGER. The song was well received on its release in the local market and almost immediately went into rotation on POWER 95 www.power95.bm. Founded by J-Rock Communications and established in October of 2004, Tha Underground first started out as a general website designed to allow local artistes in Bermuda to submit and promote their musical works and talents. The demand from the website prompts the members of Tha Underground organisation to create and host Bermuda’s first Music Awards Show in November 2005 in recognition of the Artistes contribution to the local industry.
