Tiger Woods starts comeback with a speech
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Out of sight for almost three months, Tiger Woods will be back for a day.
After that — who knows.
Golf’s biggest star is to make his first public appearance Friday since he ran his SUV over a fire hydrant and into a tree outside his Florida home on Nov. 27, setting off a shocking and sordid sex scandal.
The setting for his return is decidedly friendly. It may be hard to remember the planet is watching.
Woods will speak to a small group of “friends, colleagues and close associates” in the Sunset Room on the second floor of the TPC Sawgrass, home of the PGA Tour. Just one video camera will broadcast the event and there will be no questions.
Once he’s done, Woods apparently won’t be sticking around much longer.
He is to return to therapy after he speaks about his infidelity and his future plans, according to a letter from PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem obtained by The Associated Press.
Finchem’s letter to the PGA Tour policy board and other officials explained why Woods chose Friday to make his first public comments, which are to be televised live by the major networks.
Woods’ statement comes during the Match Play Championship, sponsored by Accenture, the first company to drop Woods as a pitchman. Read the rest of this entry »

Tiger Woods News Conference Schedule for Friday in Florida
Okay now Tiger baby lets bury the hatchet and move right along to business as usual. This has been one long drawn out saga about the so-called “Tiger Woods Transgression”. Let me ask you guys, have you always been faithful in your marriages? I hope so. Is Tiger Woods the first man guilty of marital infidelity? Im not in agreement with what the golf star has done to his marriage and his family, but seems to me like some people wouldn’t mind taking the brother to the gallows for his MARITAL INFIDELITY.
Well, this Friday he will be holding a press conference to pour out his soul and I suspect it will be in an effort to get back on the good side of his lovely wife, business colleagues and sponsors. And why not?
As first reported by Fox Business Network Senior Correspondent Charlie Gasparino, Tiger Woods will hold a news conference Friday in Florida to discuss both his future and his admission to “transgressions” last year that were reported to involve marital infidelity.
According to a statement from Woods’ agent, the golfer will speak to a small group of “friends, colleagues and close associates” at 11 a.m. Friday at the TPC Sawgrass clubhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Woods plans to apologize for his behavior last year, when several women reported having affairs with the renowned golfer. Read the rest of this entry »
Camby stunned by potential trade to Blazers
Los Angeles Clippers center Marcus Camby(notes) may have unknowingly attended his own farewell dinner on Monday night.
The Clippers are on the verge of completing a trade that will send Camby to the Portland Trail Blazers, league sources said, but the veteran center is not happy about the potential deal.
The proposed trade, which was first reported by Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, will send Camby to Portland in exchange for forward Travis Outlaw(notes), guard Steve Blake(notes) and cash.
In town in advance of their Tuesday game against the Trail Blazers, the Clippers were having a team dinner at Portland’s Ringside steakhouse Monday night when Camby received a call on his cell phone from his agent, Rick Kaplan. Kaplan informed Camby that he will likely be traded to Portland.
One league source cautioned that the Blazers’ ownership had yet to sign off on the deal. The Denver Nuggets also are trying to make a last-ditch effort to bring back Camby before the Portland deal is finalized. Read the rest of this entry »

For The NBA, This All-Star-Game May Be a Game-Changer
In Texas everything isn’t just bigger, it is the biggest.
108 000 people filling up the Cowboys’ Stadium was the eccentric dream that Mark Cuban wanted you to testimony – well, it was realized and it just might have saved the NBA.
A game-changing event would be fit to describe the potential impact, that the 2010 All-Star-Game has showed the world. Not only was it the basketball game with the biggest attendance ever, it was a landmark in the way that the All-Star game is being carried out.
Sure, the Slam Dunk contest sucked, again, and the other events were pretty boring for anyone who watched them live on their television sets, but the centerpiece of the weekend was just too good to be true.
It was a defiant scenario – 108 000 sounded like a big figure, too big to handle, indeed. Well, impossible is definitely nothing, when the League’s best join forces to showcase their immense talent.
This is what you get when Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Chris Paul and all the other stars do what they love – playing entertaining basketball. Read the rest of this entry »
Jamie McMurray survives Daytona marathon
Jamie McMurray scripted a storybook ending to Sunday’s Daytona 500. It’s too bad the plot to get there was so full of holes.
On a track where crumbling asphalt caused almost 2 1/2 hours of delays, McMurray persevered to win NACAR’s biggest race, holding off a furious charge by the sport’s most popular driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr., on the final lap.
After tearing up the turf in the tri-oval with doughnuts, McMurray got out of his car and sprinted to the flagstand to grab the checkered flag. He then dropped to his knees in the grass and pounded his fist into the ground, savoring the moment.
“Unbelievable. Unbelievable,” McMurray said in Victory Lane, tearing up as he tried to gather himself. “I told my wife today, she was like ‘If you win tonight …’ oh, I am going to cry … it is so unreal.
“I thought if I made it without seeing my dad or my wife, I’d be OK. It is unbelievable really. I can’t explain it. It is a dream. I mean it really it is.” Read the rest of this entry »
2010 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony and Schedule
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP)—The first day of the Winter Games didn’t turn out as everyone hoped, or as anyone planned.
A wicked crash claimed a life before competition could even begin. Hundreds of protesters forced a detour in the torch relay. And the moment Canada spent seven years building toward—the lighting of the Olympic cauldron—was tarnished by a technical glitch.
With hours to go before the opening ceremony, a luger from the nation of Georgia was killed after he lost control of his sled on the infamously fast track at Whistler and crashed into a steel pole.
The death of Nodar Kumaritashvili hung over the usually festive first day of the games. Inside BC Place Stadium, the ceremony was punctuated by somber pauses, sorrowful speeches and flags lowered to half-staff. The 21-year-old slider’s grief-stricken teammates marched with black armbands and scarves.
Then, at the climax of the three-hour show, with four torch-bearing Canadian sports heroes in the spotlight, a technical error ruined the symmetry. One of four pillars designed to rise from the stadium floor and form the Olympic cauldron malfunctioned, leaving speedskater Catriona LeMay Doan unable to join in the lighting.
