Showbizspy wrote an article on Tuesday about “Hilary Swank Gets Laughed at for Being Fight-fisted With Money”…but my simple question is “So what?” She just isn’t taking much (well they said her fortune) for granted.

The actress — who grew up in Bellingham, Wash. without much money — says she still appreciates the value of a dollar.

“People around me laugh because I still have a deep understanding of what a dollar gets you and how far to make that dollar go,” Swank told In Style magazine.

“No wonder my closet is a hodgepodge. I have everything from Louboutins to Payless, from Gap to designer stuff. You don’t have to have a brand name on to be stylish. You can mix it all together and it works.”

Swank — who divorced actor Chad Lowe in 2006 after nine years of marriage and is now dating her agent, John Campisi — also said she sees her divorce as “a success”.

“A lot of people look at divorce as a failure. I really look at my relationship with Chad as 14 years of success,” she said.

“I will carry him in my heart forever. He’s a part of me. Friends of mine and I talk about this. Does someone come into your life for a certain time, and then you are supposed to go your separate ways? There’s a part of me that thinks that’s true.

“There are friendships that we grow out of. But I believe in the long haul. I believe in having a monogamous relationship.”

Garfield

BBC NEWS: British actor Andrew Garfield is to play comic book superhero Spider-Man in the next outing of the film series, it has been announced.

The 26-year-old, raised in the UK but born in California, will begin work on the new movie in December.

His previous credits include last year’s The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus alongside the late Heath Ledger.

Former Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi departed the franchise after making three films.

‘Rare combination’

The new instalment, to be shot in 3D, will focus on the formative years of Peter Parker, the unremarkable youth who – after being bitten by a radioactive spider, is transformed into the superhero.

The movie has yet to be named.

Marc Webb, who will direct Garfield in the film, said of the new star: “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents.

“He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

Spider-Man producer Avi Arad added: “We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future.”

Garfield, who was revealed to the press as the new Spider-Man in Cancun, Mexico, has a wealth of British TV roles to his credit.

He won the best actor Bafta in 2008 for his role in hard-hitting Channel 4 drama Boy A.

Brought up in Surrey, his other credits include Doctor Who, Sugar Rush and Channel 4′s Red Riding trilogy.

The crackdown, which included seizing assets from 15 bank accounts, involved police, customs and the movie industry.

The closure of the sites, which had 6.7m visitors combined each month, was described as the “largest takedown of illegal movie and TV websites in a single action” by the government.

Some films were available hours after their release in US cinemas.

Previous crackdowns on film piracy have focused on illegally copied DVDs.

The latest action is the first of its scale to target websites which profit – by selling advertising or taking donations – from offering pirated films for free.

Website warning

Search warrants were executed in New Jersey, New York, North Carolina and Washington in an investigation which involved about 100 agents in 11 US states as well as the Netherlands

Websites targeted had links to films including Knight and Day, Jonah Hex and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time – all currently showing in US cinemas.

A warning placed on the websites state they have been seized by officials.

The government has only seized domain names which means computers running the sites could be used with different URLs.

John Morton, of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said: “If a site reappears, so will we.

“If the criminals move overseas, we will follow.

“Take it from me, I don’t think that we’ve stopped internet piracy in a day but this is going to be a sustained effort.”

Officials say that further actions, including possible prison terms, are expected against website operators.

That even applies to the seemingly shortchanged 15-year-old RJ Berger, who sizes himself up for the audience as “scrawny and weird-looking, awkward and pale.”

The hero of the new MTV scripted comedy “The Hard Times of RJ Berger,” he follows in a rich TV tradition of winsome misfit adolescents — kids with smarts, creativity and spunk lurking just beneath the surface of their systematic victim hood.

But RJ comes with a bonus tucked away in his boxer shorts: He’s extremely well-endowed.

Thus does “Hard Times” raise issues that consume males from their early adolescence onward: How much is big enough? Why don’t I have more? Why is life so unfair? A show aimed at teen and twenty something guys (plus girls with their own interest in the subject), “Hard Times” portrays the ultimate wish fulfillment of its primary audience, while reminding the viewer that no blessing comes without a cost.

Here is a young man whose gift (never witnessed by viewers, of course, and thus enhanced even more in the mind’s eye) is plenty big enough, and then some.

And yet, doggonit, RJ’s life isn’t perfect. For RJ, a large penis is as much a curse as a blessing, as much a burden as an object of pride.

As what could be described as “The Wonder Years” meets “Boogie Nights,” the 12-episode series premieres Sunday at 11 p.m. EDT following “The MTV Movie Awards.” It focuses on RJ’s relatable misadventures in high school, as well as his relatable ambivalence about his manhood, however much the physical evidence might scream “case closed!”

“Hard Times” bears a passing resemblance to HBO’s “Hung.” In that drama series, which returns for its second season June 27, a financially struggling family man and high school teacher becomes a male prostitute.

But RJ, who is played with understated forbearance by Paul Iacono, isn’t nearly so desperate. His struggles are more those of self-acceptance and gaining acceptance of his fellow teens.

RJ is free to stew over such dilemmas in private until, in the premiere, the cat (so to speak) is out of the bag. In a wardrobe malfunction during a basketball game, his secret is exposed to the whole student body.

RJ’s nerdy, marginal presence is instantly revised among all who behold him. From now on, it seems, he will be identified on campus with a blend of envy, jeering and a bit of the yuck factor. What might very well serve as an advantage is also likely to further stigmatize him.

The long and the short of it: What is expected of RJ is how to deal with his package deal.

RJ’s best friend, the sex-obsessed and sex-deprived Miles (Jareb Dauplaise) is thrilled to learn of RJ’s previously undisclosed bounty. Miles bets he will seem desirable to girls by mere association.

“It’s our golden ticket!” Miles rejoices.

After the revelation, RJ’s stalker-ish hanger-on Lily (Kara Taitz) is all the more interested in RJ.

But his sole, unrequited love interest remains the beautiful Jenny (Amber Lancaster), whose boyfriend is Max (Jayson Blair), the meanest jock in school.

Now Max gives RJ more grief than before, mocking him (jealously?) as a freak.

Meanwhile, a friendship blossoms between RJ and sweet Jenny, who by chance are paired as study buddies. It’s a friendship challenged in the third episode when, playing the romantic leads in the school musical, they share a kiss. RJ’s sudden onstage tumescence literally stops the show.

But “Hard Times” isn’t totally fixated on RJ’s phallus. This condition is barely mentioned in the second episode (airing Monday, June 14, at 10 p.m., in the series’ regular slot), when RJ summons newfound confidence to run for student president against Max, the clear favorite.

“OK, maybe we’re losers,” says RJ in a bold campaign speech. “But why are we losers? Is it because we suck at sports? Is it because our parents are our only friends on Facebook? No, what makes us losers is that we BELIEVE we are losers!”

At heart, “Hard Times” tells the familiar story of a little guy against the world. The message, delivered in provocative style: Size is what you make of it.

AP: Lena Horne, the enchanting jazz singer and actress known for her plaintive, signature song Stormy Weather and for her triumph over the bigotry that allowed her to entertain white audiences but not to socialise with them, has died. She was 92.

Horne died Sunday at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, said hospital spokeswoman Gloria Chin, who would not release details.

Quincy Jones, a longtime friend and collaborator, was among those mourning her death Monday. He called her a “pioneering groundbreaker”.

“Our friendship dated back more than 50 years and continued up until the last moment, her inner and outer beauty immediately bonding us forever,” said Jones, who noted that they worked together on the film The Wiz and a Grammy-winning live album.

‘She was a pioneer’

“Lena Horne was a pioneering groundbreaker, making inroads into a world that had never before been explored by African-American women, and she did it on her own terms,” he added. “Our nation and the world has lost one of the great artistic icons of the 20th century. There will never be another like Lena Horne and I will miss her deeply.”

“I knew her from the time I was born, and whenever I needed anything, she was there. She was funny, sophisticated and truly one of a kind. We lost an original. Thank you Lena,” Liza Minnelli said Monday. Her father, director Vincente Minnelli, brought Horne to Hollywood to star in Cabin in the Sky in 1943.

Horne, whose striking beauty often overshadowed her talent and artistry, was remarkably candid about the underlying reason for her success: “I was unique in that I was a kind of black that white people could accept,” she once said. “I was their daydream. I had the worst kind of acceptance because it was never for how great I was or what I contributed. It was because of the way I looked.”

In the 1940s, Horne was one of the first black performers hired to sing with a major white band, to play at the Copacabana nightclub in New York City, and when she signed with MGM, she was among a handful of black actors to have a contract with a major Hollywood studio.

In 1943, MGM Studios loaned her to 20th Century-Fox to play the role of Selina Rogers in the all-black movie musical, Stormy Weather. Her rendition of the title song became a major hit and her most famous tune.

Horne had an impressive musical range, from jazz and blues to the sophistication of Rodgers and Hart in such songs as The Lady Is a Tramp and Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered. In 1942′s Panama Hattie, her first movie with MGM, she sang Cole Porter’s Just One of Those Things, winning critical acclaim.

In her first big Broadway success, as the star of Jamaica in 1957, reviewer Richard Watts Jr called her “one of the incomparable performers of our time.” Songwriter Buddy de Sylva dubbed her “the best female singer of songs.”

“It’s just a great loss,” said Janet Jackson in an interview on Monday. “She brought much joy into everyone’s lives – even the younger generations, younger than myself. She was such a great talent. She opened up such doors for artistes like myself.”

Against racism

Horne was perpetually frustrated with racism.

“I was always battling the system to try to get to be with my people. Finally, I wouldn’t work for places that kept us out. It was a damn fight everywhere I was, every place I worked, in New York, in Hollywood, all over the world,” she said in Brian Lanker’s book I Dream a World: Portraits of Black Women Who Changed America.

While at MGM, Horne starred in the all-black Cabin in the Sky, but in most movies, she appeared only in musical numbers that could be cut when shown in the South and she was denied major roles and speaking parts. Horne, who had appeared in the role of Julie in a Show Boat scene in a 1946 movie about Jerome Kern, seemed a logical choice for the 1951 movie, but the part went to a white actress, Ava Gardner, who did not sing.

“Metro’s cowardice deprived the musical (genre) of one of the great singing actresses,” film historian John Kobal wrote.

“She was a very angry woman,” said film critic-author-documentarian Richard Schickel, who worked with Horne on her 1965 autobiography.

“It’s something that shaped her life to a very high degree. She was a woman who had a very powerful desire to lead her own life, to not be cautious and to speak out. And she was a woman, also, who felt in her career that she had been held back by the issue of race. So she had a lot of anger and disappointment about that.”

Lena Mary Calhoun Horne was born in Brooklyn on June 30, 1917, to a leading family in black society. Her daughter, Gail Lumet Buckley, wrote in her 1986 book, The Hornes: An American Family, that among their relatives was Frank Horne, an adviser to President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

SANTA MONICA, California (AP) – Chaz Bono is officially a man and has his new name.

A judge on Thursday granted a request to change the name and gender of the 41-year-old writer, activist and reality TV star.

Chaz Bono was born a girl, named Chastity, to Sonny Bono and Cher and underwent a gender-change operation last year.

Bono was represented in court by attorney Kristina Wertz of the Transgender Law Center. Wertz says the judge’s order is an important step in Chaz Bono’s transition and will allow him to reflect his new identity on a variety of official documents.

Wertz says in a statement, “Chaz couldn’t be happier.”

JC is one of 23 potential series the network said it has in development. It depicts Christ as a “regular guy” who moves to New York to “escape his father’s enormous shadow”.

His father is presented as an apathetic man who would rather play video games than listen to his son talk about his new life, according to Comedy Central’s thumbnail sketch of the idea. Reveille, the production company behind The Office, Ugly Betty and The Biggest Loser, is making JC.

It wouldn’t be the first time Jesus Christ has been on a Comedy Central cartoon; he’s a recurring character on the long-running South Park.

Comedy Central was the target last month of an Internet threat for a South Park episode that supposedly showed Islam’s prophet in a bear costume.

Whenever South Park features Muhammad in an episode, Comedy Central obscures the character with a black box; Muslims consider any physical representation of their prophet to be blasphemous. Following the Internet threat, Comedy Central angered South Park producers by editing out a character’s speech about intimidation in a subsequent episode.

“It’s not certain what is more despicable: the nonstop Christian bashing featured on the network, or Comedy Central’s decision to censor all depictions of Muhammad,” said William Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Civil and Religious Rights.

Comedy Central wouldn’t comment on Donohue’s statement, said network spokesman Tony Fox, who declined to give further details about JC.

A development deal is a couple of steps ahead of a series making it to air and, in fact, most such deals don’t result in series. The network would have to like the scripts enough to produce a test episode, then like that enough to put it on the air.

Other series in the works are Intercourse with Whitney Cummings, about the comedienne’s adventures in dating, and Live Sex Show, a late-night panel discussion about sex.

Popular radio personality DJ Sunshine is getting ready to make her local television debut, as the host of a brand new television show called Reggaelution 20. The first episode of Reggaelution 20 will be aired on CVM television Thursday March 18, 2010 at 5:30pm. This new top 20 countdown show is designed to promote good Jamaican music both locally and overseas. The show is also scheduled to begin airing on the renowned Caribbean television station Tempo in the near future.

DJ Sun Shine is a graduate of St. Andrew High School for Girls and the Miami Dade Community College; she also has degree in architecture. Sunshine has had a craving for music since she was in high school; she would rush home from school in the evenings to listen to the radio and record the latest tunes on cassette tapes. She would play back these tunes and practice mixing them on the family stereo set.

After graduating from college and returning to Jamaica she began playing out at house parties and small events at venues such as Harry’s Bar in Kingston, to hone her craft. Like a ray of Sunshine she burst onto the music scene to become the “FIRST LADY” of the Dancehall, when she joined the staff of the hugely popular IRIE FM radio station in October 2001. Since then she has been flexing her musical muscles entertaining thousands of people both locally and abroad who tune in to catch her popular radio show The Jam, which airs on Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays.

Since she has been on IRIE DJ Sunshine has become as a top radio DJ and she has also branched out into other areas of the business. She has also become a very popular MC, she recently performed such duties on major events such as Rebel Salute and Follow Di Arrow. Sunshine is also a major force on the party circuit as she is heavily in demand for parties and other events.
