Federal Judge allows same-sex couples married in Massachusetts

According to reports from news.mydaily.com Fed Judge Rules Against Gay Marriage Ban, okay this might be so but I cant wait to hear or see what will happen when same sex couples are allowed to enter wedding contests hosted by NBC’s Today Show and the Associated Press.

The story as reported by news.mydaily.com:

In a victory for same-sex marriage proponents, a federal judge in Boston, Massachusetts has ruled that the federal ban on gay marriage, aka the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), violates the constitution because it interferes with the right of each state to define marriage. In his ruling — which effectively allows same-sex couples married in Massachusetts, where gay marriage has been permitted for six years, equal claims to federal benefits as heterosexual couples — U.S. District Judge Joseph Tauro contended that, “irrational prejudice plainly never constitutes a legitimate government interest,” CNN reports. Hailing the ruling as “a victory for civil rights,” Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley told reporters, “All citizens who are married in Massachusetts should be treated equally.” The Department of Justice says it is reviewing the decision, which could have widespread implications if it is upheld. In related news, NBC’s “Today” show announced today that it would allow same-sex couples to compete in its annual wedding contest, the Associated Press reports. “Moving forward, we ensure that our future wedding contests will be inclusive to all couples,” NBC said.

Marijuana use by seniors goes up as boomers age

By Associated Press Writer Matt Sedensky

MIAMI – In her 88 years, Florence Siegel has learned how to relax: A glass of red wine. A crisp copy of The New York Times, if she can wrest it from her husband. Some classical music, preferably Bach. And every night like clockwork, she lifts a pipe to her lips and smokes marijuana.

Long a fixture among young people, use of the country’s most popular illicit drug is now growing among the AARP set, as the massive generation of baby boomers who came of age in the 1960s and ’70s grows older.

The number of people aged 50 and older reporting marijuana use in the prior year went up from 1.9 percent to 2.9 percent from 2002 to 2008, according to surveys from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

The rise was most dramatic among 55- to 59-year-olds, whose reported marijuana use more than tripled from 1.6 percent in 2002 to 5.1 percent.

Observers expect further increases as 78 million boomers born between 1945 and 1964 age. For many boomers, the drug never held the stigma it did for previous generations, and they tried it decades ago. Read the rest of this entry »

Prayer and Support for Haiti

Let us all continue to pray for the speedy recovery of Haiti that was devastated by earthquake on January 12, 2010.

I will never forget the day considering that a few hours prior to the earthquake on that same day, I did a 20 minutes interview with the Westmoreland’s Office of Disaster Preparedness Coordinator in Jamaica, who was telling us about their plans for Earthquake Awareness Week, which is being celebrated this week.

My heart is bleeding for my neighbors in Haiti. Let us contribute to the repair of the damages and continue to pray for the country and the many people and organizations heading there as I write to assist in which ever way. Jah Bless.

Wyclef Jean’s (Popular entertainer and humanitarian from Haiti) Tweeted on Twitter: Help Haiti Earthquake Relief Donate $5 by texting YELE to 501501 right now please.

Help in any way you can.
