US wanted for ‘Dudus’ case

JAMAICA GLEANER: Supreme Court judge Roy Jones has called for the United States government to make its voice heard in court proceedings seeking to determine if Minister of Justice Dorothy Lightbourne has the authority to decline the extradition request for West Kingston strongman Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.

Jones made the recommendation yesterday while releasing Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller and Joseph M. Matalon, president of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), as defendants in the proceedings initiated by Lightbourne, who is also the attorney general.

Lightbourne had initially declined to sign a request to proceed with the extradition of Coke on the grounds that the evidence on which the United States’ case is based was acquired illegally.

In court documents, the justice minister contends that she properly exercised her discretion with respect to the extradition request.

“In my view, the party whose legal interests may be affected by the grant of the declaration sought by the minister is the government of the United States of America,” the judge said.

“They (US), however, enjoy sovereign immunity and cannot be named or served to be a party in this matter. The minister says, however, that they have been made aware of these proceedings and can elect whether they wish to intervene in any capacity they so choose.” Read the rest of this entry »

Woman Stabs Husband for Not Satisfying Her in Bed

From the looks of this mug shot of Thomas, she seems pretty pleased about her actions which resulted in her being arrested. Imagine stabbing your partner for not performing to your satisfaction in bed. I am sitting here thinking about how many persons the Courts of this land would have to sentence to prison terms or fine, if we all were to look at life the way Thomas sees it. My gosh!!

Thomas, 26 of Hudson, Texas tried to go Black Widow on her common law husband Tuesday (May 4). Apparently she wasn’t happy with his sexual performance, so she grabbed a pair of scissors and started slashing and stabbing him. The man suffered cuts to his chest, left thumb and left knee according to the Lufkin Daily News. Read the rest of this entry »

Massive earthquake strikes Chile

SANTIAGO, Chile – A devastating magnitude-8.8 earthquake struck Chile early Saturday, shattering buildings and bridges, killing at least 78 people and setting off a tsunami that threatened every nation around the Pacific Ocean — roughly a quarter of the globe.

Chilean TV showed devastating images of the most powerful quake to hit the country in a half-century: In the second city of Concepcion trucks plunged into the fractured earth, homes fell, bridges collapsed and buildings were engulfed in flames. Injured people lay in the streets or on stretchers.

Many roads were destroyed and electricity and water were cut to many areas.

There was still no word of death or damage from many outlying areas that were cut off by the quake that struck at 3:34 a.m. (1:34 a.m. EST, 0634 GMT) 200 miles (325 kilometers) southwest of Santiago.

Experts warned that a tsunami could strike anywhere in the Pacific, and Hawaii could face its largest waves since 1964 starting at 11:19 a.m. (4:19 p.m. EST, 2119 GMT), according to Charles McCreery, director of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. Read the rest of this entry »

Austin plane crash exposes gap in US air security

Joe Stack

GEORGETOWN, Texas – After 9/11, cockpit doors were sealed, air marshals were added and airport searches became more aggressive, all to make sure an airliner could never again be used as a weapon. Yet little has been done to guard against attacks with smaller planes.

That point was driven home with chilling force on Thursday when a Texas man with a grudge against the IRS crashed his single-engine plane into an office building in a fiery suicide attack. One person inside the building was also killed.

“It’s a big gap,” said R. William Johnstone, an aviation security consultant and former staff member of the commission that investigated the Sept. 11 attacks. “It wouldn’t take much, even a minor incident involving two simultaneously attacking planes, to inflict enough damage to set off alarm bells and do some serious harm to the economy and national psyche.” Read the rest of this entry »

Tiger Woods starts comeback with a speech

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Out of sight for almost three months, Tiger Woods will be back for a day.

After that — who knows.

Golf’s biggest star is to make his first public appearance Friday since he ran his SUV over a fire hydrant and into a tree outside his Florida home on Nov. 27, setting off a shocking and sordid sex scandal.

The setting for his return is decidedly friendly. It may be hard to remember the planet is watching.

Woods will speak to a small group of “friends, colleagues and close associates” in the Sunset Room on the second floor of the TPC Sawgrass, home of the PGA Tour. Just one video camera will broadcast the event and there will be no questions.

Once he’s done, Woods apparently won’t be sticking around much longer.

He is to return to therapy after he speaks about his infidelity and his future plans, according to a letter from PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem obtained by The Associated Press.

Finchem’s letter to the PGA Tour policy board and other officials explained why Woods chose Friday to make his first public comments, which are to be televised live by the major networks.

Woods’ statement comes during the Match Play Championship, sponsored by Accenture, the first company to drop Woods as a pitchman. Read the rest of this entry »

Murder arrest for BBC man who said he killed his lover

London, England (CNN) — British police said Wednesday they have arrested a BBC television presenter on suspicion of murder after he told viewers he carried out a so-called mercy killing on a former lover.

Ray Gosling, 70, a freelance broadcaster, admitted on a BBC show aired in central England that he had smothered the unnamed partner in hospital where he was being treated for AIDS. Assisting in another person’s death is illegal in England.

Police in Nottinghamshire, 160 kilometers (100 miles) north of London, confirmed they had made an arrest after the apparent confession on the BBC’s “Inside Out” show.

Gosling made his admission in a taped segment of a 30-minute show about death, recounting how he smothered his partner to end his “terrible, terrible pain.” Read the rest of this entry »

Cat Stew TV Italian Chef Suspended

I just saw this man, Beppe Bigazzi on television trying to convince someone how good CAT STEW is and going on a little about the preparation process. My stomach …. So in his effort to explain about how nice cat stew is the chef has gotten his ass suspended, ouch!!! Beppe, I think you need a cat scan!!! But EXACTLY why is he suspended though, I didnt actually see him cooking a cat on the show?

According to Ecorazzi Beppe Bigazzi, a popular TV Chef in Italy, was recently suspended from the cooking show La Prova del Cuoco (the Cook’s Challenge) after telling viewers how they could best cook a cat.

He told viewers to prepare cat meat by soaking it in a stream for three days to tenderize it and then cook it in a stew.

“I can assure you, it’s a delicacy – now I am going to get lots of letters,” he said.

Yes, he did. And phone calls too. So many people were outraged that the 76-year-old Bigazzi was suspended from the show. “I was just trying to explain a saying from where I come from about the eating of cats,” he added. “In the 1930s and 1940s, they were very popular.” In Italy, killing and cooking cats is illegal under a 1991 law and punishable by up to 18 months in jail.

Call me a horrible person, but how is this any different from suggesting the best way to cook a cow, turkey, pig, or any other creature? Are they not as intelligent as cats or capable of emotion? Like most things, it shows how emotionally tied we are to one species but completely blind to the plights of others. How many of those “outraged activists” you think went home and ate a hamburger that night?
