Dancehall music is more popular than reggae in Jamaica right now, so much so that newcomers, popular and legendary reggae singers; as well as reggae music producers are expressing concerns that the music is more recognized in Europe and Asia, and even parts of the USA than in the country of origin; Jamaica.
Reggae singers are saying that their is no market for their music in Jamaica and they are not getting the opportunity to perform for their Jamaican fans, because most promoters are hosting events with performances from dancehall artistes only.
While I must state that I have gone to events and seen reggae singers performing, I must agree that it is predominantly dancehall artistes that are booked for these shows.
But in the last five years or more there having been problems in the dancehall fraternity that have left most music lovers and other persons in the music industry to believe that the music is dying slowly but surely.
What could be the real reason for this? Is it due to power struggles where leaders in particular clans dictate what other members do; drugs; money; fame;lack of education;or other?
